VOLKSWAGEN INITIATES TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL: 6,671 VEHICLES AFFECTED

Kuala Lumpur, 26 December 2023 – Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has activated a Takata airbag recall on 6,671 vehicles, including popular models such as Golf GTI, Eos, Passat CC, Polo, Beetle, and Vento. The affected vehicles, manufactured between 2010 and 2014, are equipped with a specific driver front airbag gas generator housing.

Key Points:

  1. Models Affected: The recall impacts sixth-generation Golf GTI, Eos, Passat CC, Polo, Beetle, and Vento, manufactured between 2010 and 2013. Additionally, Beetle models produced from 2012 to 2014 are also included.
  2. Root Cause: A faulty airbag gas generator housing is identified as the root cause of concern. Deterioration of the generator’s propellant, influenced by high air humidity and temperature fluctuations, poses potential risks to the driver and passenger.
  3. Safety Urgency: VPCM urges affected customers to make immediate appointments with Volkswagen dealers for inspection. The recall is essential to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
  4. Notification Process: Identified owners will receive notifications through email and WhatsApp based on the Volkswagen database. Those who purchased vehicles from previous owners or used car dealerships are advised to contact the nearest Volkswagen authorized dealer for verification.
  5. Parts Replacement: In case of parts replacement, VPCM assures owners that all labor and replacement parts for this service will be provided at no cost.
  6. Recall Management: The nationwide recall will be executed in phases to effectively manage the number of cases. VPCM has collaborated with dealer partners to ensure smooth execution and availability of necessary parts.

Affected vehicle owners can check their status and schedule appointments by visiting Volkswagen Malaysia’s Service Action page and entering their 17-digit VIN number located at the bottom left of the vehicle’s windscreen.
