Perodua
Unlike its neighbour, Perodua does
not design or engineer their main components, such as engines and transmissions
as Perodua cars have historically used Daihatsu component and designs. Daihatsu
held a 20% stake in Perodua at the company's launch, increasing this to 25% in
2001 and then to 35%. In 2004, Perodua started assembling the Toyota Avanza at
their plant in Rawang, for sale in Malaysia. However, the company has been
quite successful in its ways, where the automobile manufacturer is proven
popular in Malaysia, with the Perodua Myvi having sold 80,327 units in 2006,
outselling its rival’s best car, which only sold 28,886 units.
Since the introduction of the Kancil
in 1994, Perodua has launched ten models in to the Malaysian automobile market
since, models the Rusa, Kembara, Kenari, Kelisa, Myvi, Viva, Nautica, Alza,
Axia and the all-new Bezza has won the hearts of many Malaysians. Until this
day, the Myvi has been the most popular model even in the Malaysian used car
market, as proven by its robust reliability, affordable running costs and its
inoffensive looks.
