The Volkswagen Beetle – one of the most iconic cars in automotive history – has its 80th birthday this year and to celebrate the occasion, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has organised a nationwide event at all authorised Volkswagen dealerships, including Wearnes Automotive. The nationwide birthday celebration will take place on March 17 (that’s this Saturday) from 11 am till 5 pm.

Visitors to any showroom will not only get to view the Beetle Sport 1.2TSI but also test-drive it. Those who take part in the test-drive will also stand a chance to win a lucky draw prize of a LEGO Creator Expert Volkswagen Beetle at the dealership. The rest of the family can enjoy fun activities and refreshments.

The Beetle Sport is priced from RM147,888 and is available in Bottle Green, Pure White, Tornado Red, Blue Silk, Dark Bronze and Habanero Orange.

Its features list is quite extensive with standard paddle shifters to change gears without taking your hands off the steering wheel, cruise control, 2-zone Climatronic air-conditioning system, 6.5-inch Composition media system with touchscreen display and App-Connect, leather trim ‘Vienna’ seat upholstery with front seat lumbar support, bi-xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lights.

The proven 1.2-litre petrol engine is a turbocharged TSI unit which produces 105 ps/175 Nm, all of which goes to the front wheels through a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Having been sold in almost every country during its long history, the Beetle gained numerous local nicknames that reflected its iconic shape.

If you like the Beetle and want to own one, there’s good news: for a limited period, you can get a rebate of RM5,000 for the model. If you prefer another new Volkswagen model, you can also get up to RM15,000 in cash rebates. Since the beginning of this year, all newly-registered Volkswagen models from authorised dealers come with a 3-year (or maximum of 45,000 kms) free maintenance package.
