Motorists who visit Caltex stations can now use the Visa payWave method of making payments at the pump. All that is required is to wave or tap their payWave card in front of the reader and start fuelling up their vehicle.
Chevron Malaysia Limited, which markets Caltex fuel and lubricants, has formed a partnership with Visa to be the first fuel provider in the country to introduce Visa payWave at its service stations. The contactless process is faster and requires no signing nor keying in a PIN for transactions below RM250. It is similar to the process at many retail outlets.
There is a pre-authorised amount of RM200 which is a standard thing at all Outdoor Payment Terminals (the automated fuel dispensers). This pre-authorization of RM200 is set by the local banking industry.
However, it should be noted that those who use Debit cards (which deduct money from your account immediately) will have the full amount withheld for up to 3 or 4 working days. Should this be inconvenient, they can walk indoors to the cashier and request for a specific amount to be charged. In this way, only the amount purchased will be charged and there will be no withholding of RM200.
“At Caltex, we are always looking at ways to enhance the motorists’ journey so it is more enjoyable. Being the first in Malaysia to adopt the contactless payment technology through our partnership with Visa, we are confident motorists will be able to experience quicker service at our stations,” said Shahid Ahmed, Country Chairman, Chevron Malaysia.
According to K.B. Ng, Visa Country Manager for Malaysia, more than two million Visa payWave transactions a month are now carried out in the country, with growing usage of the payWave method. “With motorists now able to pay for their fuel with the wave of their cards at the petrol kiosk, we believe more Malaysians will embrace the benefits of contactless payments. We are confident that the introduction of Visa payWave at Caltex service stations will fuel the growth of electronic payments,” said Mr. Ng.
To kick off the partnership, Chevron and Visa are running the “Wave & Win” promotion which starts will be on until March 19, 2018. During this period, Visa cardholders who purchase any Caltex fuel or Mart convenience store items using Visa payWave will stand a chance to win the Grand Prize of a Mercedes-Benz C200 and RM10,000 StarCash. 32 lucky customers will also walkaway with monthly prizes of RM5,000 StarCash.
