With a good mix of appealing products in all the major segments, Honda has been enjoying steady growth in many markets and in 2017, it achieved its best-ever automobile sales in the Asia & Oceania (A&O) region. The retail sales volume reached 793,636 units, a 12% increase from 2016 sales volume of 707,951 units.

By country, Indonesia contributed the biggest volume of 180,971 units although this was lower than in 2016. Its volume accounted for 23% of the total sales, a share similar to that by the Indian market which sold 179,451 units.

Five countries set all-time annual sales records – Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Pakistan. Sales in the Korean market had the highest growth year-on-year of 55% although the total volume was just 10,308 units in 2017. Pakistan reported 47,424 units, which was also an impressive 49% jump from the year before.

The latest Civic saw a two-fold increase in sales but it was the City that was Honda’s bestseller in the region.

By model, the latest Civic was clearly in great demand when it was introduced as it recorded a two-fold increase in sales compared to 2016. However, it was the City – Honda’s first Asian Car originally introduced in 1995 – that was the most popular model. 169,124 units were delivered throughout Asia, 6% more than in 2016.

The HR-V was the only other model to exceed total sales of 100,000 units in the region although the 2017 volume of 102,182 units was 2% lower than that reported for 2016.
