With a good mix of appealing products in all the major segments, Honda has been enjoying steady growth in many markets and in 2017, it achieved its best-ever automobile sales in the Asia & Oceania (A&O) region. The retail sales volume reached 793,636 units, a 12% increase from 2016 sales volume of 707,951 units.
By country, Indonesia contributed the biggest volume of 180,971 units although this was lower than in 2016. Its volume accounted for 23% of the total sales, a share similar to that by the Indian market which sold 179,451 units.
Five countries set all-time annual sales records – Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Pakistan. Sales in the Korean market had the highest growth year-on-year of 55% although the total volume was just 10,308 units in 2017. Pakistan reported 47,424 units, which was also an impressive 49% jump from the year before.
By model, the latest Civic was clearly in great demand when it was introduced as it recorded a two-fold increase in sales compared to 2016. However, it was the City – Honda’s first Asian Car originally introduced in 1995 – that was the most popular model. 169,124 units were delivered throughout Asia, 6% more than in 2016.
The HR-V was the only other model to exceed total sales of 100,000 units in the region although the 2017 volume of 102,182 units was 2% lower than that reported for 2016.
