The E-Class model variants has been further diversified by the introduction of the in-line six version of the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Sedan and Coupé, above the E 43 AMG, E 300 AMG Line, E 350 e PHEV, E 250 Avantgarde and Exclusive and E 200, bridging the gap between the V6 biturbo E43 and the beastly V8 biturbo E 63 S AMG.
First introduced in the CLS 53 AMG 4MATIC+ Coupé, the 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbo engine powers the new E 53 AMG Sedan and Coupé with EQ boost starter-alternator making a healthy 345 hp at 6,100 rpm and 520 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 5,800 rpm.
Additional performance comes courtesy of 48-volt electrification and the integrated starter-alternator with an output of up to 21.5 hp providing an extra boost during initial acceleration. In addition to this, an electric auxiliary compressor ensures outstanding engine response across the entire rpm range.
With the extra electrical boost assistance, the E 53 cars can go from standstill to a hundred within 4.5 seconds and topping out at an electronically limited 250km/h. Being performance-focused vehicles, the claimed combined fuel consumption for both cars stands between 8.6 – 8.7 l/100km.
Mated to the new six-pot turbo engine is coupled with the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission, which provides drivers short shift times, fast response to shift paddle commands, a double-declutching function and multiple downshifts. The transmission is part of the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, delivering power to all four wheels.
Besides that, the E 53 models comes with AMG Ride Control+ air suspension. The multi-chamber air suspension features a sporty damper set-up and continuously adjustable damping ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System) which provides reduced body roll with ride comfort. The damping characteristics can also be preselected in three modes, “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport+”, providing a comfortable ride suitable for long-distance driving, and the latter modes provide a firmer and sportier handling characteristics.
Both, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 and E 53 Coupé are equipped with the Multibeam LED headlamps boasting 84 individually activated high-performance LEDs that provide plenty of illumination in the dark without glaring other road users. The performance sedan and coupé rides on 20-inch AMG alloy wheels.
