Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has added a Premium variant to its Tucson range to offer customers an upscale choice. Priced from RM159,888 (excluding insurance), the new variant brings the number of choices to four – the others being the 2.0 MPi Elegance (RM126,188), 1.6 Turbo GDi (RM145,688) and R 2.0 CDRi (RM155,788).
Some of the addition features for the Tucson Premium include Twin LED Positioning Headlamps with Static Bending Lights, dual-zone fully automatic air-conditioning, a panoramic sunroof and a roof rack. This variant also has 6 airbags, 6:4 rear backrest which allows expansion of the cargo area and a reclining seat function (also found in the 1.6 Turbo GDi and the R 2.0 CDRi variants).
The new variant is powered by the same engine as that used in the Elegance, including the 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine produces a maximum of 155 ps/192 Nm which goes to all 4 wheels. The standard 4WD system for the Premium variant send 100% of torque to the front wheels during normal road driving but can vary up to 40% to the rear wheels when necessary to maintain stability and grip.
The driver can also manually lock the torque-split at 50:50 but this is only for extremely slippery conditions. There is also Traction control which minimizes wheelspin on slippery roads, especially when starting off.
The Tucson is one of the safest vehicles in its segment and has received the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. 51% of its strong body structure is of ultra-high strength steel for improved torsional rigidity and impact resistance. As with all Hyundai models, the Tucson also features safety systems such as Vehicle Stability Management, Hillstart Assist Control, Downhill Brake Control and an Electric Parking Brake.
“We hope to increase the market appetite for the Tucson by offering three powertrain options that cater to the different preferences of car owners. With the introduction of these new variants, we believe we have covered all aspects required of an SUV and we are confident SUV enthusiasts will find the Tucson ideal in every way,” said Lau Yit Mun, Managing Director of HSDM.
All purchasers of the Tucson are entitled to free scheduled servicing during the first 50,000 kms or a maximum of 3 years. HSDM also offers a warranty for 5 years or 300,000 kms (whichever comes first) on all its new passenger models. A 24-hour road assist service is now available for new and existing Hyundai vehicles.
