After 12 gruelling stages and 6,500 kms across 3 countries on the western side of the African continent (Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal), the Petronas De Rooy Iveco team was the first to cross the finish line. Their victory in the 10th edition of the Africa Eco Race was in the Truck category which they led from the beginning of the competition.
Like the famed Paris-Dakar Rally, the Africa Eco Race presents the same extreme conditions and challenges to participants. For this event, 179 vehicles – cars, motorcycles and trucks – were entered, of which 91 were in competition (the other vehicles were support vehicles).
“This is yet another great achievement for our driver Gerard De Rooy and we would like to congratulate him and his crew on his first win in the Africa Eco Race! This competition puts drivers under incredibly tough conditions but also tests the reliability of the trucks and products which are required to resist under severe conditions. This is also the first time Petronas Lubricants participated in the competition and we are very proud to be technical partners to Iveco and De Rooy also in the Africa Eco Race,” said Giuseppe D’Arrigo, Group MD & CEO of Petronas Lubricants International.
“Our close collaboration with Iveco and FPT enable us to develop superior lubricants and functional fluids for our customers globally. This win is another testament of great vehicles and superior Petronas Fluids Technology Solutions working together,” he said, adding that the team’s green Iveco Powerstar truck used Petronas Urania engine oil and Petronas functional fluids.
As a long-term technical partner with Iveco, Petronas plays a fundamental role in the development of lubricants, transmission fluids and coolants that are designed to excel not only on De Rooy’s special Powerstar trucks but also on Iveco vehicles running thousands of kilometres all over the world.
