For the past 20 years, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) has been having an annual Coffee Break campaign to promote safety amongst motorists, especially those travelling during the upcoming festive season. During the campaign period, participating PETRONAS stations across Malaysia offer travellers complimentary coffee and snacks while they take their break along the journey.

The PETRONAS Coffee Break is on this weekend (February 1 – 3) as well as on February 9 and 10 after the Chinese New Year when many will be returning home after the holidays. From 22 stations in the early years of the campaign, 150 PETRONAS stations now offer the Coffee Break.

“It is important for drivers to stay fresh and alert so that they are better equipped to drive safely and courteously,” said Minister of Transport YB Anthony Loke. “In this regard, PDB’s initiatives are most welcome.”

Commenting on the Coffee Break, PDB’s Managing Director & CEO, Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin, said: “PDB takes road safety seriously and the PETRONAS Coffee Break campaign is one of our flagship road safety campaigns, introduced since 1998. The campaign supports the government efforts in reducing road accidents through reminding drivers to take regular breaks and drive safely towards their destinations to celebrate the festivities with their loved ones.”

During the Coffee Break campaign period, the Road Safety Department (JKJR) will also educate the public on road safety tips. Perodua car owners can have complimentary vehicle inspections while there will be free health checks for all by St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (at selected stations).

PDB is also running the inaugural National Safest Driver Challenge in collaboration with Katsana, a company that manages the GPS tracking and fleet management system. The Challenge is conducted via DriveMark, a safety mobile application which keeps track of driving behaviour and rewards safe driving actions with positive score and vice-versa. To be eligible to participate, motorists need to download the DriveMark App available at Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and drive a minimum distance of 200 kms from now until February 28, 2019.

The National Safest Driver Challenge will reward two Grand Prize winners with 100,000 Mesra points (equivalent to RM1,000), RM1,000 Touch‘nGo credit, 10,000 PLUSMiles points and RM10,000 DriveMark Personal Accident Coverage for 12 months. There will also be 50 special prize winners who will receive 5,000 Mesra points, RM50 Touch‘nGo credit and RM10,000 DriveMark Personal Accident Coverage for 3 months, as well as 2,750 consolation prizes.

Besides the Coffee Break, PDB is also offering motorists who purchase RM30 of the newly launched PETRONAS Primax 95 with Pro-Drive a RM1 discount on any item purchased at its Kedai Mesra. This offer is only for today so save some money when you pick up drinks or snacks on your journey.
