Even though new vehicle sales this year are forecast by the Malaysian Automotive Association to be less than 1% over that recorded in 2018, Perodua seems to be doing better than that. By the end of February, its total sales volume of nearly 37,400 vehicles was 7.3% higher than the volume for the same period last year. On the production side too, there was an increase of almost 6.2% over the 2018 output to 36,500 units.

Improved delivery times
Commenting on the sales figures, Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd’s MD, Dato’ Dr. Zahari Husin, said: “The heightened sales performance is a result of our efforts to further improve our delivery times.” Pending the release of data from the MAA in the middle of the month, he said that Perodua estimates its market share for this year stands at 41%.

Leading the sales has been the Myvi, with around 15,000 units sold during January and February. Order for the Aruz 7-seater SUV continue to grow and over 13,000 bookings have been received since early January.

To date, 3,600 units of the SUV have been delivered, with 85% of them being the AV variant. Dato’ Dr. Zahari said that the company is working hard to reduce the waiting time by adjusting the production schedule.

Aruz on Tour
