As the company which sells the most motor vehicles in Malaysia – an average of almost 17,000 new units each month this year – Perodua is aware that it also has a big responsibility where road safety is concerned. Besides selling vehicles, it has also to help make sure that its vehicles are driven safely and with consideration to other road-users.

In this connection, the carmaker has initiated a nationwide road safety campaign for the coming 5 years aimed at improving the behaviour of drivers. The campaign will begin with encouraging drivers to follow basic traffic laws as well as practice good driving habits.

The 5-year programme’s initial focus has 4 pillars of good driving habits – the wearing of seatbelts; non-usage of mobile devices while driving; the usage of turn signals; and the usage of childseats.

Perodua President & CEO, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said that the safety messages of the campaign are targeted to reach 1 million customers within a year of the programme commencing. To achieve this, promotional materials will be placed in Perodua sales and service outlets nationwide.

“We believe that this 1 million target is achievable as a total of 1.2 million customers patronise our sales and service outlets every year, and we will take this opportunity to educate on positive driving habits through these touch points,” he said.

“As part of this 5-year Road Safety Programme, Perodua hopes to work with various government agencies such as Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Raya (JPJ), Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) to make the roads safer. We are firm supporters of the government’s efforts in enhancing road safety and want to play our part,” he said.

From now until Chinese New Year 2018, to encourage parents to use childseats, the company is offering such items at RM660 for an Infant Seat and RM780 for a Toddler Seat. The Infant Seat is designed for infants weighing up to 13 kgs and is available in red or grey colours. The Toddler seat is for children weighing between 9 and 36 kgs and is offered in red or black. After the promotional period, the Infant Seat will be priced at RM790 and the Toddler Seat at RM980.

“We believe that the products we offer are competitive against other established brands and what’s more these come with our seal of approval,” Datuk (Dr) Aminar said. “In addition to selling these child seats to our customers, our authorised sales and service advisors will also demonstrate how to install them properly.”

Another of Perodua’s safety initiatives is Tweckbot, a safety campaign using social media which Perodua started in 2011. Offering a free 50-point vehicle inspection for all Perodua vehicles during every festive period, Tweckbot teams have inspected some 5,000 vehicles to date. Owners who have used the Tweckbot service have enjoyed peace of mind on their journeys knowing that their vehicle is in good shape.
