The Perodua community, made up of its group of companies and staff, has contributed RM1.1 million to Tabung Harapan Malaysia in support of the government’s efforts to reduce the country’s debts. The contribution adds to the over RM180 million that has been donated by various organisations, groups and individuals up till the end of August.
Tabung Harapan Malaysia, or Malaysia’s Hope Fund, was launched by the new Pakatan Harapan government on May 30, 2018 to provide a proper channel for Malaysians who wished to voluntary assist the government to repay the nation’s debts, which, according to the Finance ministry, exceed RM1 trillion.
“We understand that the effort to reduce the country’s debt levels will take some time, and we will support the government of the day in improving the country’s economy through the Malaysian automotive eco-system,” said Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, Perodua’s Chairman, after he presented the contribution to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng. “The contribution demonstrates that Perodua and our staff want a better Malaysia, and that we are more than happy to show our support for that cause.”
Commenting on the company’s business, he said that Perodua expects to sell 209,000 vehicles this year. This high volume will not only benefit independent dealers nationwide but also generate good revenues for the vendors, mainly Malaysian companies. For 2018, Perodua has committed to acquire RM5 billion worth of automotive components from its vendors.
