At the beginning of the month, the carmaker invited Facebook users to vote for four proposed names (X7, PX7, X70 and X700) and to date, around 70,000 people have voted in the online poll. There is also the option of proposing an alternative name for the SUV which is adapted from the Geely Boyue.
Votes will be accepted up till 11:59 pm Malaysian time on April 30 2018. The winners will be announced prior to the launch date of the model. Click here to go to the online poll page.
“The new SUV is a significant milestone for Proton and therefore we wanted to share it with our fellow Malaysians as it also represents a symbol of national achievement. We did not expect such a big number of responses in such a short time and feel humbled by the interest shown in the first premium C-segment SUV produced by a Malaysian automotive brand,” said the company’s Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, Abdul Rashid Musa.
He said that, as a token of appreciation, RM100,000 worth of gift vouchers will be shared among the participants. Five winners will also be chosen based on the best reasons given for the name they gave their vote to and their prize package will be a ‘money-can’t-buy’ experience consisting of exclusive VIP invites to the launch as well being among the first people to drive the new model at Proton’s test track.
Should the alternative name be picked, one lucky winner will be rewarded with a 4D/3N tour package to Hangzhou and Shanghai for two, inclusive of a visit to the headquarters of Geely.
“As the official launch date of the SUV approaches, Proton will embark on more activities to build product awareness and excitement among Malaysians,” added Encik Rashid. He revealed that Proton’s first SUV will have some of the most technologically advanced features like smart voice recognition and a 360-degree 3D display. It will also have many advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency brake assist.
