Honda Malaysia is introducing the most powerful model ever to join its line-up – the new Civic Type R – and the preview of the model takes place this weekend at the Sepang International Circuit which is running the 2017 Formula One Petronas Grand Prix.

The latest Civic Type R is currently the world’s fastest FWD production car based on its record lap time of 7 minutes 43.8 seconds set at the Nurburgring Circuit in early April this year.

Honda Malaysia has not said how much it will price the car at (the officially imported model was RM200,000 in 2007) but 21 selected Honda Sport Dealers around the country (one in East Malaysia as well) are accepting bookings from tomorrow onwards. The car, available only in white, is imported from Honda’s global production hub for the model which is in England. However, the 2-litre VTEC turbocharged engine with 310 ps/400 Nm output is manufactured at a Honda factory in America. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard.

In 2007, Honda Malaysia officially sold the Civic Type R

The Type R is Honda’s iconic high-performance model with a history going back 25 years. Malaysia was among the very few countries that was allowed to officially sell the Japanese sedan version in 2007, thanks to the efforts of a former Honda Malaysia MD/CEO, Seiji Kuraishi. While he was in Malaysia, Mr. Kuraishi was frequently asked to bring the Type R in and when he returned to Japan and was responsible for global product planning, he made a special request for Malaysia to have the model.
