The BMW X3 is one of most popular SUV model the company has to offer, which had sold almost 1.5 million vehicles over two model generations worldwide. And to continue their strong lead in the segment, BMW Group Malaysia has launched the all-new third-generation BMW X3 (G01), priced at RM320,000.
Introduced as the X3 xDrive30i Luxury trim, the locally assembled G01 comes with a whole new list of features housed in an all-new exterior design. Crafted by BMW’s Australian designer, Calvin Luk, the third-generation X3 has the hallmark features found on the latest BMW models launched before.
The exterior dimensions has been largely unchanged but with slight alterations; the wheelbase now measures five centimetres longer, a longer bonnet and shorter front overhangs provides the all-new X3 its visually balanced proportions. The underbody protection is finished in Frozen Grey and high-gloss chrome, and stands on 19-inch double spoke Ferric Grey light alloy wheels all round.
Now familiar is the new “three-dimensional” kidney grille flanked by a pair of full LED headlights with low- and high-beam, sidelights and cornering lights. It also comes with hexagonally shaped front fog lamps. There’s also BMWs high-beam assist which switches to high-beam automatically when needed.
Likewise, the light clusters at the rear comes with a three-dimensional look, which is possible that the rear lamps are fully LED which gives designers freedom to design the way the rear lamps look on the G01. In a sea of fake exhaust tips, the all-new X3 has fully functional chrome twin exhaust tailpipes.
An SUV has to have practicality and the all-new X3 doesn’t disappoint; it boasts a 550-litre boot space by default and with the rear seats folded down unleashes and additional 1050-litres – making up a total of 1,600-litres. And with having more than a handful of stuff to carry, the X3 comes equipped with Comfort Access with contactless boot operation provides hands free access to the tailgate.
The interior of the All-New BMW X3 follows BMW tradition with its driver-focused and ergonomically optimised cockpit layout and carries over many aspects of the car’s exterior design. There is more storage space than the previous model with improvements made these to these areas for easier access.
There’s also galvanised plating on the air conditioning, audio and steering controls for that luxurious touch. Evidence of the attention to detail on the interior includes the exclusive BMW X embossing which is highly visible on the B-pillar, centre console and rear door trim.
The all-new X3’s sports seats are clad in Leather Vernasca with contrast stitching with padded side bolsters and eye-catching shoulder section. The dashboard is also set low to offer the distinctive “Command Position”, leaving the driver with a feeling of being in control with a good all-round vision.
With the Luxury Line, owners will get to enjoy the X3’s leather upholstery, a Sensatec-covered instrument panel with contrast stitching and Dark Oak fine wood interior trim strips with accent strip in Pearl Chrome. The All-New BMW X3 also comes with six ambient light colours tones (orange, lilac, mint, bronze, blue and white) with selectable contour and mood lighting.
For added convenience, the all-new X3 comes with a rear view camera, with Park Distance Control, which provides an acoustic and visual distance warning of the obstacle behind the vehicle. To assist the driver further, the Parking Assistant aids with automatic parking into parallel and lateral parking spaces.
What makes the all-new X3 chooch is a 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine utilises a fast spooling twin scroll turbocharger, direct injection, variable valve timing Double-VANOS and variable valve lift Valvetronic system, resulting an impressive 252hp at 5,000rpm and 350Nm of torque at 1,520rpm to 4,800rpm.
Mated to an 8-Speed Steptronic Sport transmission, the all-new X3 is capable of reaching 100km/h from standstill in a hot-hatch quick 6.3 seconds and keeps on sprinting until the needle touches 240km/h. This is thanks to its 55kg weight savings and a low Cd factor of 0.29, which puts the all-new X3’s coefficient of drag figure closely to the Nissan Leaf. Furthermore, the standard Driving Experience Control switch allows the driver choose between Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ driving modes.
When it comes to the techy bits, it’s all new age technology with old school fun; the new 12.3-inch Multifunctional instrument display replaces the traditional gauge cluster, which is able to display a breadth of information such as navigation, the three different driving modes interfaces corresponding to the driving modes Eco Pro, Comfort, and Sport, and their own colour scheme and visual styles, all on a single screen.
Meanwhile, the 10.25-inch Central Information Display is located above the instrument panel boasts touch control functionality, providing a quick overview of the most pertinent information and offers users intuitive access. With the BMW ConnectedDrive, owners will have seamless connectivity to their car and the world outside.
When it comes to colours, the All-New BMW X3 comes with Terra Brown, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver and Alpine White. Inside, the Leather Vernasca Black is best paired with Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver and Terra Brown; whereas the Leather Vernasca Mokka is best paired with Alpine White and Black Sapphire.
