When Proton began its business, the car market was a very different place compared to today. There were less players and though there was competition, it was less intense. Customers too were not as demanding as they are today so simpler sales and aftersales outlets were fine. Today, with competition so great, every car company has to offer more than just a place to view, try, buy and maintain cars. Providing a great ownership experience is how differentiation will be measured and draw customers.
“Everywhere, businesses are focused on customer satisfaction to ensure sustainability, and Proton is definitely gaining momentum to reap rewards in the future from current plans that have been put in place,” said Abdul Rashid Musa, Proton’s Vice-President of Sales and Marketing.
“For this reason, I encourage dealers to upgrade their outlets to 3S and 4S status so that we can all be in a thriving business together and progressively benefit from it,” he added.
Proton has been urging its dealers to upgrade their facilities as quickly as possible. Just as its rivals expect, new dealerships opened must be 3S (sales, service and spare parts) as a minimum as the single-function outlets (just a showroom selling cars) is no longer acceptable from a business standpoint.
In less than 5 months, Proton has achieved 72% of its 2018 target for its outlets nationwide to have 3S or 4S (additional services like body repair and painting) status. The company is reaching the target earlier than expected and should have 109 3S/4S outlets by the end of October 2018.
“This is absolutely good news, a wonderful moment for Proton and with the upgrading taking place, we are confident that we are on steady ground to provide world-class excellence by delivering best sales and service experience for our customers,” said Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton.
“I also wish to thank new investors who joined us as dealers of the Proton family. While all of us are tirelessly making plans to drive Proton forward, we are very encouraged by the fact that we have the support of new investors along the way who are game to take on the challenge of being a Proton dealer. This can only mean one thing – that we still have strong brand presence in the market and because of this, many came on board to sail on the Proton journey into the future with us,” he added.
Dato’ Sri Ngu Ung Yong from Ngu’s Motor Service Sdn Bhd, Proton’s only dealer in Sibu, Sarawak, sees it as ‘a duty to make Proton successful again’. “Moreover, with the partnership with Geely and new management, we trust Proton is in a good position for turnaround,” he said after assigning an agreement to upgrade his premises to 4S status.
Proton continues to receive applications to start new dealerships from investors who are confident of the direction and future of the company. “This pleasant surprise gives us further motivation to serve our customers better. With regards to this, we would also like to inform that there will be limited number of dealerships available, hence we recommend submission of as soon as possible you can. We welcome your applications and we thank you in advance for your willingness to look,” said Dr. Ho Tuck Sum, Head of Network Planning.
