Have you ever felt that the power of the C 250 and GLC 250 wasn’t enough, while the C 63 S is a little too much and want something in between? You’re not alone and there’s already a solution. In fact, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) launched a line of cars that sit in between the regular and the astronomically powerful Dream Cars line up, which the AMG 43 line of models are able to cater those who wants the best of both worlds. The only problem was that they were CBU, which naturally costs a little bit more.
Well, if you do opt for one, then it’s good news, as Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched two new locally assembled Mercedes-AMG models; the C 43 and the GLC 43, each priced at RM408,888 and RM468,888 respectively, OTR without insurance. According to MBM, the CKD 43 models “offer an incredible performance to value ratio in the segment.” In comparison with the CBU prices, the CKD AMG 43 models are RM91,000 and RM70,000 lesser respectively, and enjoy a four-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Being a high-performance oriented model, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 saloon boasts the AMG Line exterior which include the diamond radiator grille with pins in chrome with “AMG” lettering, the “Biturbo 4Matic” badge on the front fenders and the two tailpipe trim elements in a twin-tailpipe design, plus high-gloss black detachable body parts and trim. Also found on the C 63 models, the AMG spoiler lip on the boot is also an exterior feature on the C 43. Last but not least, the C 43 stands on 19-inch AMG 5-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in high-gloss black with a high-sheen finish round off the design visually.
Likewise with the C 43 saloon, the GLC 43 also gets the AMG Exterior line treatment with the diamond radiator grille featuring chrome-plated pins, a louvre in high-gloss black with inserts in high-gloss chrome and the AMG lettering. Down below, the silver chrome front splitter ensures an optimal flow of air to the cooling modules. The GLC 43 rides on high-gloss black 21-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels maketh its sporty stance. There are also high-gloss black door mirror caps and the silver-coloured “Biturbo 4Matic” lettering on its front flanks.
The interior also gets sporty AMG treatment; a multifunction sports steering wheel with flattened bottom section with silver chrome trim, sports seats with enhanced lateral support and an exclusive AMG instrument cluster with AMG menu are the significant differentiators against in the regular C-Class models. The seat, door centre panels, and also the upper part of the dashboard and belt lines are finished with red top-stitching.
The interior of the GLC 43 features a multifunction sports steering wheel in black leather features a flattened bottom section and red contrasting topstitching, and sits perfectly in the hand, and both front occupants will get to sit in the AMG Sport seats. The steroidal GLC comes with two large round dials and central colour multifunction display with measuring 5.5-inch diagonally relaying important driving information within the driver’s field of vision. The ECO display supports a fuel-saving driving style. Dials in a chequered-flag look and the distinctive typography lend the large displays an especially sporty touch.
Under the hoods of the C 43 and GLC 43 4Matic lies a M276 DELA 30 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine with modified boost pressure making 367 hp at 5,500 to 6,000 rpm, and 520 Nm at 2000 to 4200 rpm. The V6 engine features Nanoslide coating of the cylinder liners which is also used in the Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 V6 hybrid turbo engines. Tough and and wear-resistant, the coating also reduces friction contributing to higher efficiency. The AMG V6 engine can be identified by the red aluminium insert in the engine cover.
Connected to the V6 biturbo engine is the AMG-tuned 9G-tronic automatic transmission, with reduced shift times and enables drivers multiple downshift for quicker short bursts of speed, and featuring double-declutching function in the “Sport” and “Sport Plus” transmission modes.
Defined ignition adjustments also provide swifter gearshifts in the “Eco” and “Comfort” modes. “Manual” mode can be enabled by pressing a button on the centre console which gear changes can be done via the paddles on the steering wheel. Moreover, the transmission stays in the selected gear even when the engine speed reaches the limit.The standard-fit all-wheel drive AMG performance 4MATIC drivetrain is rear-biased with torque distribution of 31% at the front axle to 69% at the rear axle.
Also included are the dual-zone climate control, 13-speaker Burmester audio system, 360-degree camera, Parking Pilot, COMAND Online, an 8.4-inch infotainment display, Keyless Go with push start, Pre-Safe (includes autonomous emergency braking) and seven airbags.
As with the prices mentioned, the monthly instalment of RM 4,088* for the Mercedes-AMG C 43 over three years, for example, customers will enjoy the benefits of Agility Financing and scheduled vehicle maintenance and servicing. The first five customers (based on contract activation) will receive a Mercedes-AMG gift set worth approximately RM 4,700. This package is available from one to five year tenure. The Performance Agility Care package was designed to give customers convenience and peace of mind.
