Personal insurance coverage for accidents is something many people don’t always think off as they may feel ‘it won’t happen to me’. Unlike insurance coverage for a car, which is required by law, personal accident insurance coverage is not a legal requirement so for most people, the extra cost is something they want to avoid. And then one day, if they are unfortunate to have an accident and get hospitalized, then they will regret not having insurance to pay for the bills.

Now, those who have the PETRONAS Mesra card can enjoy an easy and low-cost way of getting personal accident insurance coverage. PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB), Shieldcard Holdings Sdn Bhd and Zurich General Insurance Malaysia Berhad (ZGIMB) have formed a strategic partnership to extend the Mesra Personal Accident (PA) benefit exclusively to Mesra card members.

This enhanced benefit opens up another avenue for Mesra points conversion as Mesra card members can now enjoy the Mesra PA Plan for only RM1 (100 Mesra points) monthly, when they spend a minimum of RM100 per month at any PETRONAS station nationwide. The worldwide 24/7 protection provides the member Accidental Hospital Income of RM50 per day, for a maximum of 30 days per insured event.

In the event of an unfortunate death or permanent disablement of the Mesra card member in an accident, the family or next-of-kin of the member, will be entitled to a cash payment of up to RM25,000 (increased to RM50,000 if the insured event occurs on a public holiday gazetted by the Malaysian government).

Additionally, by registering for the Mesra PA Plan, Mesra card members are automatically enrolled for the AXXESS programme for free, where AXXESSpoints can be earned at participating merchants nationwide, to help reduce or pay in full, members’ annual motor insurance premiums.

Speaking at the event, PDB’s Head of Retail Business Division Aadrin Azly, said: “The partnership is a result of seeing through our customers’ lens to widen our loyalty programme benefits to include things that are essential, such as insurance coverage.”

“Being in the business of fueling our customers’ everyday journey, road safety is naturally of highest concern and we hope that our customers will take this opportunity to get themselves covered as it is only at a mere RM1 per month,” he added.

All Mesra card members will be receiving an SMS or email from PETRONAS informing them of this benefit. Members who wish to sign up for the Mesra PA Plan will be directed to a dedicated webpage for enrolment. Members who sign up before February 28, 2018 will receive complimentary Mesra PA benefit for the first month.

“The introduction of the Mesra PA benefit is consistent with our aim to extend protection to Malaysians, especially those who are generally underinsured or have no insurance coverage. This programme is an ideal way for Mesra card members to get the protection they need without incurring any additional cost,” said David Fike, Chief Executive Officer of ZGIMB.
