Following the launch of the all-new Kia Grand Carnival in CBU (completely built-up) form imported from Korea in March last year, Naza Kia Malaysia began plans to assemble the MPV locally. The first batch of vehicles from Naza Automotive Manufacturing in Gurun, Kedah, has now been delivered to showrooms and are available for purchase.

While the retail prices remain the same as that of the CBU model, Naza Kia Malaysia has upgraded the features so it’s better value for money. Two variants are available, the Grand Carnival EX priced at RM180,667.99 and the Grand Carnival KX priced at RM161,191.63 (both prices excluding insurance premium, private registration in Peninsular Malaysia).

Compared to the CBU version, one of the upgraded features is the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard. This comes with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, offering easy connectivity with compatible smartphones. This means that many of the smartphone functions such as maps and navigation, calls, messages and music will also be accessible from the dashboard screen.

Bluetooth connectivity is also available and the driver can directly connect a compatible device to the vehicle’s infotainment system with a few presses on the steering wheel switch.

The locally-assembled Grand Carnival is also equipped with an electrochromic rearview mirror. Apart from providing a dimmed reflection when headlights from vehicles behind shine on the mirror, the auto-dimming technology also dims in proportion to the intensity which allows the driver to have a clearer view at all times without having to manually adjust the mirror when driving at night. This means more comfortable and safer motoring at night with reduced eyestrain.

Other specification enhancements include Aeroblade wipers as well as a Tri-Zone air-conditioning system (KX variant).

Both variants are powered by a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine producing 193 ps/440 Nm which goes to the front wheels through a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission.

Safety is also well covered with 6 airbags inside the advanced high-strength steel structure. For Active Safety, there’s Electronic Stability Control and Hill Start Assist along with HID headlamps with Daytime Running Lights to keep the vehicle visible at all times of the day.
