After another successful year in 2018 where it continued to be a leader in the Commercial Vehicle (CV) segment – for the fifth consecutive year – Isuzu Malaysia is geared up for a stronger effort this year. Revealing that last year was a challenging and intense year for Isuzu’s CV business, Isuzu Malaysia’s CEO Koji Nakamura said that the company faced strong competition from Hino.

The secret of success
“We fought hard by building stronger ties with our loyal customers and communicating our core values better to our potential customers. We achieved the highest monthly sales volume in August and succeeded in keeping No.1 position in the CV segment for the 5th consecutive year. This also marks our milestone of being in No.1 position for 9 consecutive years in the LD segment,” he said.

The Light CV segment is especially competitive with companies introducing new models frequently to gain market share. Isuzu Malaysia has worked hard to differentiate itself with core values of reliability, durability and fuel efficiency. In addition, the X series received several awards while the brand achieved the JD Power Initial Quality No.1 position and No.2 in SSI.

One of the new dealerships opened in 2018.

Key to the success of the business has been the network that is spread across the country. “We aim to continuously expand our coverage to provide best products and services to more customers,” said Mr. Nakamura. He noted that the opening of an Authorized Isuzu Service Centre in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, will continue our next chapter of growth by providing quality aftersales services for customers in that area.

New 1.9-litre engine
While not elaborating on the new models to be introduced this year, Masayuki Suzuki, Chief Operating Officer of the Light Commercial Vehicle division, confirmed that there will be a product enhancement in the form of the new RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre Ddi Blue Power turbodiesel engine.

The new 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine to be introduced in Malaysia by the end of 2019.

Though it has a smaller displacement, its output is greater than the 2.5-litre Ddi VGS Turbo in the current D-Max. It has 10% more power, 9.4% more torque and 19% better fuel economy plus 8.2% better acceleration. Mr. Suzuki explained that this has been achieved through new engine features to reduce internal friction as well as a new more efficient exhaust gas recirculation system.

“This engine is already offered in the D-Max and mu-X in Thailand and we are currently planning to introduce it in Malaysian market by the end of 2019. We displayed the engine at the 2018 KL International Motor Show and the response and feedback from the crowd was very encouraging,” Mr. Suzuki said.

Isuzu Malaysia also offers two unique genuine accessories packages – the Titanium Package and Robust Package – for owners who want their vehicles to be more distinctive. The packages can be purchased through authorized Isuzu dealers nationwide.
