At this year’s Indonesia International Motor Show which is on this week, the highlight at the Honda booth is the Small RS Concept which proposes a compact model for everyday usage of young-at-heart customers which still offers a sporty driving feeling.
“The Honda Small RS Concept is the implementation of our endless innovation, emphasizing Honda sporty spirit, especially in small car line ups. As a concept car, this is our vision of what a small sporty car should be,” said President Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor, Takehiro Watanabe.
Mr. Watanabe explained that, as with existing Honda models, the ‘RS’ badge is applied to Honda variants which feature sportier design characters. Currently, Honda offers RS variants of the Jazz, Brio and Mobilio in the Indonesian market.
Built on a small car platform, the Small RS Concept was designed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Company, Ltd. It features a sporty exterior design, expressing Honda’s sporty DNA. No technical details are available so it’s just a design study rather than a proposal for a future model. Nevertheless, such exercises also help designers obtain feedback from consumers and if there is some feature which seems the draw attention, they may consider adopting in it future models.
The concept car is in line with Honda’s theme for its displays which is ‘Drive Sporty – Live Safely’. The theme reflects the carmaker’s commitment to deliver fun-to-drive experiences through its products while maintaining safety as one of highest priorities.
“The combination between sport and safety is aimed at providing people the joy and freedom of mobility and safety to everyone sharing the road,” Mr. Watanabe said.
In addition to its Safety theme, Honda also had an Interactive Safety Zone where visitors could learn more about Honda’s advanced safety technologies and safety initiatives such as Honda SENSING.
