Ford Motor Company continues its efforts to raise road safety awareness in Malaysia through its global Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme. The latest round in this series of educational activities was held at the Han Chiang College in Penang where some 50 students participated in 4 half-day DSFL workshops.
The event was organized in partnership with Ford’s local distributor partner, Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC), and was the second workshop provided for Han Chiang College following positive feedback and demand from the first event held last December. The tips are especially timely as many students prepare to drive home for the national holidays period in two weeks.
As always, the DSFL workshops were provided free-of-charge, and were specially tailored to address challenges faced by young drivers, such as inexperience in dealing with unexpected situations, distracted driving, and the importance of ensuring child seats are securely fastened.
“Ford is committed to help raise awareness in road safety and educating drivers on safe driving practices and techniques to help make Malaysia’s roads safer for everyone,” said Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, MD of Sime Darby Auto Connexion. “We are proud to continue this programme with Ford’s support and provide younger drivers with the tools and resources they need to drive safely.”
Ford’s DSFL programme encourages safe driving by equipping participants to make the correct decisions when behind the wheel, to reduce the chance of accidents occurring. The sessions start in the classroom, with participants learning about a range of topics from steering control, to tips for highway driving and driving in the rain as well as fuel-saving tips.
Participants also learn about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or medication, by wearing specially designed goggles that helps simulate the experience of driving while movement, coordination and alertness are impaired. Participants then move outdoors for a hands-on driving session to apply the learnings.
DSFL is Ford’s flagship global corporate social responsibility programme. In Asia, Ford DSFL is now in its tenth successful year of training licensed drivers of all ages, free-of-charge. More than 85,000 drivers across six countries in the ASEAN region have benefitted from the training.
