True to their word, Perodua began delivering the all-new Myvi to the first customers within less than 24 hours after the car was launched. Thanks to online registration processes now offered by the JPJ, what used to take up to a week can now be done overnight.
The first owner is the Group Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, who received the car together with his wife. Incidentally, PNB is also an investor in Perodua and clearly, they must be happy with their investment as the company is very successful.
Deliveries to other customers began from 8 am yesterday to the first of 5,000 waiting customers. According to Perodua, as at 8 pm yesterday, 8 days after bookings opened for the new Myvi, the total number received reached 6,000.
The new model has been confirmed as qualifying for the maximum of 5 stars after being crash-tested and assessed by ASEAN NCAP. This is not surprising since extra effort was put in to strengthen the body structure. Furthermore, the new Myvi meets the tougher criteria set by ASEAN NCAP as it has Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) for every variant. All variants also have airbags, with the 1.5-litre variants having 6 airbags for enhanced protection against side collisions.
More significantly, the top variant has the Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) package which has active safety systems that are usually found on much more expensive cars. This driver-assistance feature has four separate functions: Pre-Collision Warning, Pre-Collision Braking, Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control. The first two are related while the third and fourth are independent functions.
The systems rely on two cameras mounted above the rearview mirror which scan the road ahead and the imagery is analysed by a computer at lightning speed to make certain decisions that can avoid an accident and costly repairs.
The three Grand Prize winners of the ‘Myvi 12 Iconic Years Anniversary SMS & Win Contest’ were also among the first owners when Perodua gave them the keys to the latest Myvi 1.5 Advance each yesterday.
“We remain committed to ensure that the All-New Perodua Myvi is delivered speedily to their respective owners. We welcome all to visit our sales showrooms nationwide to find out more about the All-New Perodua Myvi and to test drive the car,” said Perodua’s President & CEO, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh.
The first-generation Perodua Myvi was introduced in 2005 and over a million units were produced between 2005 and 2017, making it the most popular model in the company’s 24-year history.
