McLaren Automotive has revealed that its forthcoming new hyper-GT model, codenamed BP23, will achieve the highest top speed of any McLaren car yet. It will be able to exceed the 390 km/h peak speed of the legendary McLaren F1 road car.

The next addition to the McLaren Ultimate Series will also be the most luxurious McLaren ever offered for sale. Featuring a 3-seat cockpit design with a central driving position – the same layout as the F1 – and a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, the supercar will deliver a blend of extreme performance and sporting luxury that befits its status as the ultimate road-going McLaren.

The price has not been confirmed but all 106 units which McLaren will make already have customers waiting. Production is due to begin at the end of next year, with every car personalised to each owner’s taste by McLaren Special Operations.

It is known that the new model will have a name rather than the alphanumerical designations used by the McLaren Sports Series and Super Series. This name, together with the maximum possible speed, will be disclosed nearer to the car’s unveiling which will be sometime during 2018, according to McLaren Automotive’s CEO, Mike Flewitt.

The McLaren F1 was produced from 1993 to 1998
