MINI Malaysia has introduced a new variant to its Countryman model line up by unveiling the new MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid at Desa Park City, Kuala Lumpur earlier this evening. Announced at the launch event, the new locally assembled Countryman Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is priced at RM255,888.
Visually, the PHEV Countryman hasn’t been changed much, but comes with visual cues that sets the electrified MINI apart from its Petrol-only siblings. The defining features on the electrified Countryman are model-specific “e” badge on the side scuttles and yellow “S” in the model inscription on the rear as well as on the radiator grille and door sill finishers.
Besides the new badges, the new Countryman PHEV is equipped with ALL4 exterior body kit, 19” MINI Yours Masterpiece alloy wheels, as well as a charging port under a flap in the area of the left-hand side scuttle.
Hopping inside, the New MINI Countryman PHEV features MINI Yours Walknappa Leather Steering Wheel, a 6.5” Touch Screen Display in the MINI Centre Instrument which supports multi-touch with pinch to zoom-in functionality for maps and typing.
Under the hood is where lies the Plug-In Countryman’s beating heart. The new Countryman PHEV boasts a 1.5-litre three-cylinder MINI TwinPower Turbo engine making 165hp and 280Nm driving the front wheels and an electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The engine is mated to an 6-speed automatic transmission, and together with the electric motors, the Countryman PHEV makes 224hp and 385Nm of torque.
This enables the new MINI PHEV to accelerate from naught to centennial in 6.8 seconds and runs out of breath at 198km/h. MINI claims that its PHEV model is able to consume an average of 2.1L/100km, and an all-electric drive of up to 42km of speeds up to 120km/h.
Having an electric motor at the rear provides active and passive all-wheel drive assistance. When MAX eDrive mode selected, the drive mode activates rear wheel drive; the SAVE BATTERY mode engages front wheel drive, and the AUTO eDRIVE mode with eBoost activates all-wheel drive, also providing electrical boost to the petrol engine when full power is needed. The ALL4 system helps to counteract oversteer as well as understeer providing the driver balanced handling characteristics when driving the PHEV MINI close to its performance limit.
The New MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid can be charged at home by connecting it to a power socket via the Home Charging Cable for approximately 5 hours (230V), depending on the voltage of the household power grid, or at one of 270 public charging facilities across Malaysia for approximately 3:15 hours (230V), depending on the voltage of the power grid of the public charging station.
MINI Malaysia will also introduce the ChargeNow offering bundled with the MINI Public Charging Cables as well as a 1-Year free subscription of unlimited charging at all 270 ChargeEV stations to customers who opted for the New MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid.
The body and roof colour combination offered for the New MINI Countryman are Chili Red, British Racing Green, Thunder Grey, Light White, and Melting Silver with Black Roof; and in Island Blue with White Roof.
For the customer’s peace of mind, the New MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid is covered by MINI Malaysia’s 5 Years Roadside Assistance programme include a 24-Hour, 365-days-a-year Accident and Help on the Phone and On the Spot Hotline, Free Towing Services and when needed (over 200KM from residential home), Replacement Vehicle, Seamless Mobility, Accommodation, Mobility Services Solutions as well as Repatriation services.
