In conjunction with the World Clean-Up Day, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) together with eco-activists Guardians of Mother Earth, Trash Hero and I-Cycle, supported the global initiative with a beach clean-up activity in Sepang, Selangor.

A total of 120 participants comprising ETCM employees, Nissan owners and their family and friends, and eco-activist volunteers gathered at Pantai Bagan Lalang on the west coast to remove discarded materials. Helping to clean the beach meant that the marine-life can be free of debris and other pollutants.

Beach Clean-Up is one of our eco activities initiatives under the umbrella of ‘Nissan Nurtures Nature’ campaign launched June 2018. We wish to raise the awareness on waste issues and embrace positive habits to enhance society’s quality of life. We hope that this exercise would inspire more people to play their part in preserving our environment; not only at the beaches but other public places too. It is our responsibility to preserve this beautiful country for our children and the future generations,” said Christopher Tan, Sales & Marketing Director of ETCM.

Pantai Bagan Lalang is a popular beach destination in the Sepang district, approximately 60 kms from Kuala Lumpur. It is a favourite spot for picnics and camping, boating, and other recreational activities but sadly, trash – especially plastic bags and cigarette butts – are left behind.

In the clean-up activity, the participants collected more than 200 kgs of waste including 113 kgs of recyclable items and 86 kgs trash. The total weight of cigarette butts alone was 6 kgs! Data on the discarded materials collected will be submitted to the World Clean-Up authorities for analysis which can lead to better understanding of the scale of waste left lying around in Malaysia.

Interactive sessions were also conducted where participants shared their beach clean-up findings and experience. There was also a short meditation session to connect with nature and an eco-talk by eco-activist about waste management.
