Malaysians can get a glimpse of a future BMW model this weekend at the Bangsar Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur where the Concept X7 iPerformance is on display for the first time in the ASEAN region.

Specially brought in by BMW Group Malaysia, the concept model is said to exemplify the brand’s new definition of visionary mobility and progressive luxury.

The Concept X7 iPerformance is the basis for the forthcoming new X7 model which forms part of the largest model offensive in the automaker’s history and will make its global debut next year.

“Luxury has a whole new meaning. At BMW, we understand this as the ability to have time for you, for other people, and for other things. Luxury is the ability to define an experience. This new luxury was first unveiled at the BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion through the BMW Concept 8-Series early this year. Now, we are proud to once again share this vision of progressive luxury through the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance,” said Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director & CEO of BMW Group Malaysia.

The frontal design has a typical BMW layout and the upper sections of the slim, elongated twin headlights with BMW laser light link to the large kidney grille. The characteristic ground clearance of every BMW X model and the high-set lines of the flanks also project an athletic silhouette, accentuated by the long shoulder line that establishes the flowy physicality of the car.

The circular wheel arches – a first in the X range – bring out the sophisticated aesthetics of the flanks. A view of the rear perfectly captures the spatial immensity of the car. Its vertical aero lips as well as subtle, body-coloured under guard form a striking frame for the rear.

The Concept X7 iPerformance’s plug-in hybrid identity is also alluded to by the absence of tailpipe embellishers. Additionally, the rear apron with practical tailgate opening shores up the rear structure with a solid aesthetic.

The Concept X7 iPerforrmance has a generously-sized, 6-person interior with elementary forms, high-class materials and a state-of-the-art infotainment system brimming with connectivity. The sheer spaciousness spells superlative comfort, enhanced by the large panoramic roof above the occupants’ heads.

The 6 amply proportioned seats are arranged in three rows, and four of them have an exclusive individual design. The second row allows smooth access to the third row, and the slender seat base provides generous legroom for the passengers behind.

The dark, Olive-Bronze leather – with discreet gold pigmentation – covering the seat bolsters carries the air of exclusivity through to the finer details. The Smoke White leather adorning the remainder of the seats provides an intriguing contrast. The shell-like backs of the individual seats are likewise trimmed in leather and serve to enhance the high-class, contemporary ambience.

The new BMW design language, featuring amply-sized surfaces and clear edges, gives the instrument panel a ‘reduced to the essentials’, modern aesthetic. The 12.3-inch instrument cluster screen and central touchscreen information display are sited close to one another for a continuous display.

The ‘iPerformance’ badge denotes the presence of BMW’s eDrive technology allied with a BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine to create an exceptionally efficient and dynamic plug-in hybrid powertrain that can run without generating any toxic emissions.

Pre-production of the X7 is already underway at BMW’s factory in the USA and some camouflaged units are undergoing final testing before the global debut of the new flagship model in 2019.
