Proton’s Ertiga MPV has received some updates that make it better value for money and bookings are now accepted for the new version. Three variants will be offered – Premium and Executive with automatic transmissions priced at RM62,278 and RM59,525, respectively, and an Executive with 5-speed manual transmission priced at RM56,773 (all prices excluding insurance premiums).
Colour choices available are Ruby Red, Carnelian Brown, Cotton White and Metal Grey.
Referred to as the Ertiga Xtra (for Xtra Mileage, Xtra Versatile, and Xtra Comfort), the new MPV has two prominent updates which have been made based on customers’ feedback. One is the darker share for the two-toine seat fabric (stain-proof) and the other is the 7-inch touchscreen head unit which includes a navigation system, DVD player, Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity.
Unlike the old days when Proton was reluctant to admit adapting its models from those of other manufacturers, it has made no secret of the fact that the Ertiga is adapted from a Suzuki model of the same name. It has Suzuki parts including the powertrain which is the same 1.4-litre unit found in the Swift with variable valve timing so you can be assured that it has been well engineered. The output is 91 ps/130 Nm and for those who don’t like a CVT, the Ertiga’s automatic transmission is a torque converter type.
“The Ertiga is impressive in many ways. For a family usage, this car is a real bargain. It has the best fuel consumption in its class which is 17.5 kms/litre. It is also versatile in many ways, like the one action walk in mechanism makes access to the third row easy. Besides this, the multiple seat configurations also make it easier to fold the rear seats which enables carrying of long and large items for work or personal usage. There’s plenty of space for family outing and ample space in the third row to fit children and adults,” said Abdul Rashid Musa, CEO of Proton Edar.
He added that the MPV also comes with a separate blower so that the rear occupants will also receive cool air from the air-conditioner – certainly a welcome feature in Malaysia’s hot climate.
