Hyundai Motor America will show a 1,040-bhp Santa Fe at the coming SEMA show in Las Vegas this month. It’s just a concept, of course, and is the result of a collaboration with Bisimoto. With no fear of the unknown, Bisimoto is always on the cutting edge of automotive technology and the ‘Santa Fast’ Santa Fe is no exception.
Using its expertise in developing high-performance cars, Bisimoto has taken the flex-fuel turbocharged, Hyundai-based 3.8-litre Lambda V6 powerplant and positioned it longitudinally to drive only the rear wheels (a standard Santa Fe has all-wheel drive).
“Bisimoto takes pleasure in making any vehicle fun to drive, even a larger SUV,” said Bisi Ezerioha, the 44-year old Nigerian owner of Bisimoto. “Our Santa-Fast SUV is a proof-of-concept vehicle with driving capabilities that our customers can count on every day they turn the key.”
The Bisimoto team worked exhaustingly on the custom rear-drive and 6-speed manual transmission (Genesis R-Spec gearbox) conversions to achieve a factory-like appearance and function. Full boost for the powertrain is 39 psi, and a boost-per-gear protocol is used to allow for optimal traction.
The interior has Momo Daytona EVO seats, Bisimoto reservoir socks, a 4-point chromo roll cage and Crow restraint harnesses. Below it, the chassis ride on Fifteen52, 19-inch Tarmac R40 Wheels with 265/35R19 tyres. To ensure enough stopping power, the standard brakes have been replaced by Buddy Club 4-piston brakes with Bisimoto brackets.
Custom Bisimoto axles and half shafts have also been fitted, along with a differential from the Equus, to cope with the huge amounts of torque transmitted along the driveline. There’s also a Spec stage-5 clutch and aluminium flywheel.
