Although the growth of the SUV segment began from the 1990s, this decade can be considered the SUV Decade as the trend finally reached the uppermost segments, with Rolls-Royce also offering such a model. Next month, the world’s fastest production SUV will make its debut at the Bentley stand at the Geneva International Motor Show.
To be called the Bentayga Speed, it features an enhanced 635 ps/900 Nm version of the 6-litre twin-turbo W12 petrol engine that propel the SUV to a claimed top speed of 306 km/h after taking just 3.9 seconds from takeoff to 100 km/h.
The Bentayga Speed will be the most powerful and performance-oriented Bentayga in the range and builds on a long tradition of Speed models that was born with the Continental GT in 2007. It pushes the boundaries of Bentayga performance further since claiming the production SUV record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb last year.
The performance pinnacle of the Bentayga range, the Speed is equipped with four on-road Drive Dynamics modes. Uniquely for this variant, the Sport mode has been recalibrated to enhance response from the engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission, as well as the suspension and Bentley Dynamic Ride.
Bentley Dynamic Ride is the world’s first electric active roll control technology that utilises an unrivalled 48V system. This system instantly counteracts lateral rolling forces when cornering and ensures maximum tyre contact to deliver superior cabin stability, ride comfort and exceptional handling.
To match the elevated levels of performance, the Bentayga Speed has a more a purposeful exterior look. Dark-tint headlights, body-coloured side skirts and a striking tailgate spoiler hint at the SUV’s performance credentials. Dark-tint radiator and bumper grilles, a unique 22-inch wheel design available in three finishes and Speed signature badging add to the sporting design cues.
Inside, there’s a dramatic design theme with elegantly crafted ‘swooshes’ around the door and door grab, on the edge of the seat cushions and backrest bolsters, and on the lower console; a new contrast stitching on the diamond quilting. Alcantara materials also appear for the first time in a Bentayga.
Customers can personalise the Bentayga Speed to their own requirements with a range of exclusive options. Among them are carbon ceramic brakes, 22-way adjustable front seats with massage function, carbonfibre fascia panels, Bentley rear-seat entertainment and mood lighting.
