POLICE are looking for a thief who drove off in a car in Liverpool with an 18-month-old boy asleep inside. The toddler, who was in a rear passenger child seat, was later found safe and well in the city as the vehicle was recovered a short distance away.
The youngster’s father had parked his blue Vauxhall Vectra in Whinmoor Road, West Derby, to deliver a package when the offender jumped in and drove off at about 12.15pm on Tuesday. Police said the vehicle was abandoned near to Alder Hey Hospital.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “The driver of the vehicle had left the vehicle prior to the arrival of the police. A search of the area is under way and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.”

A 48-year-old Texan has been accused of faking her own kidnap to get a day off work.
According to her arrest warrant, a San Antonio police officer found Sheila Eubank bound with rope and asleep in her car on October 10. She told the officer a man had kidnapped her at knifepoint as she drove up to a cash machine.
But police said CCTV showed Eubank buying a lottery ticket at about the same time she was supposedly being held captive, WWLTV reported.
