Cars have come a long way, not just from a hundred years ago, but in the past five years alone we have seen some tremendous achievements in the automotive industry. Lets think about advancements in gearbox technology, hybrid technology, and with cars churning out more power than ever in history, lightweight composites and handling technology has hit new highs.
Luxury cars are also at an all new high, and I’m not talking about the plush leather seats and hand crafted timber fittings, but rather space age technology in a beautiful package. Let’s think about the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe. It is so advanced at all levels that it falls short of being able to drive itself. It is one of those cars that gave manufacturers like Bentley and Rolls Royce a new purpose in life.
Speaking of luxury cars, I drove the all-new Honda Accord over the weekend and was impressed by its presence and handling characteristics. The drive was a very relaxed one, reminiscent of earlier generations Mercedes sedans, which goes to show how much the Accord has progressed since its humble beginnings as a regular D-segment car.
So, if you’re on the hunt for a pre-owned luxury car, remember that the Germans do not have the market entirely to themselves, as some Japanese vehicles are able to give them a serious run for their cash. Until next week, drive safe and do check out the platinum section if you’re interested in a luxury car.
