Tesla Expands Southern Presence with New Johor Bahru Experience Centre, Begins Deliveries of Six-Seater Model Y L

JOHOR BAHRU, 4 June 2026 – Tesla Malaysia continues its expansion in the country with the official opening of its newest Tesla Experience Centre at The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey, Johor Bahru, while simultaneously commencing deliveries of the highly anticipated six-seater Model Y L just two months after its Malaysian debut.

Located at G-019, South Wing, Mid Valley Southkey, the new 3,300 sq ft facility strengthens Tesla’s presence in southern Malaysia and serves as a convenient hub for both Malaysian and Singaporean customers. The showroom showcases Tesla’s complete Malaysian line-up, including the Model 3, Model Y, and the newly introduced Model Y L.

The opening also coincides with Tesla’s latest milestone – the first customer deliveries of the Model Y L, a six-seater electric SUV designed for families seeking additional passenger capacity without compromising Tesla’s signature performance and technology.

Cross-Border Ownership Experience Enhanced

In a move that benefits regional EV owners, Tesla announced that all Model 3, Model Y and Model Y L vehicles registered in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand now enjoy cross-border service and support coverage across the three countries.

This includes access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, connectivity services, and warranty support, allowing owners to travel across borders with greater peace of mind. Tesla currently operates nine Service Centres and Service Express locations, along with 12 Tesla Approved Body Shops throughout the region.

Owners subscribing to Tesla’s Premium Connectivity package can also access a suite of connected features while travelling, including live traffic updates, navigation services, internet browsing, video and music streaming, trip planning functions, and Tesla’s AI-powered Grok assistant.

Expanding Charging Network

Tesla’s charging infrastructure in Malaysia continues to grow rapidly. As of early 2026, the company operates:

  • 19 Supercharging stations
  • 84 Superchargers
  • 17 Destination Charging stations
  • 73 Destination Chargers nationwide

Tesla also confirmed that additional charging locations are planned for the Klang Valley, Penang, Perak and East Malaysia.

At Mid Valley Southkey itself, Tesla has installed four Superchargers located at the Ground External North area near St. Giles Hotel, providing convenient charging access for shoppers and travellers.

According to Tesla, the Model Y L can add up to 288km of driving range in just 15 minutes when charging at peak Supercharger speeds of up to 250kW.

Tesla Reaffirms Commitment to Malaysia

Speaking during the launch, Isabel Fan, Senior Director of Tesla, said:

“Tesla’s mission is to build a world of amazing abundance. Tesla enables the use of electric vehicles by increasing the accessibility of Tesla technology and providing charging solutions around people’s lifestyles.”

She added that Tesla remains committed to investing in Malaysia to provide a seamless ownership experience through its direct-sales model, customer support network and integrated charging ecosystem.

Motor Trader’s Take

The opening of Tesla’s Johor Bahru Experience Centre highlights the growing importance of the southern region as a strategic EV market, particularly given its proximity to Singapore. More importantly, the arrival of the six-seater Model Y L addresses one of the few limitations of Tesla’s existing SUV lineup by offering additional practicality for larger families, while the newly introduced cross-border service support further strengthens Tesla’s appeal for frequent travellers within Southeast Asia.
