Owners of the Toyota Prius Hybrid purchased between 2009 and 2013 are requested to bring their cars to any authorised Toyota service centre in Malaysia for an update of the hybrid system’s control software. There is no technical explanation regarding this update but it must be important enough for UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) to have a Special Service Campaign (SSC) to recall the cars.
Although there have not been any reported incidents related to the issue in Malaysia, UMWT is conducting this SSC to ensure the cars remain reliable and operate at their best all the time.
The company said that a total of 6,160 units of the Prius were sold in Malaysia by UMWT and its authorised dealers during the period. This recall serves as an additional remedy to the cars involved in the previous recall announced in 2014.
UMWT has notified owners of the affected units (based on the contact information available to the company) to bring their cars in so the ECU can receive the software update. There is no charge for this and the work should take about an hour.
For further information, owners of the affected cars can contact any authorised Toyota service centre. For the locations of service centres, visit www.toyota.com.my or call the Toyota Freephone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682). The Toyota website also has information on whether your vehicle is on any recall list.
