Earlier this year, Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) began selling the Range Rover Velar, the smallest SUV of the Range Rover line-up. At the time it was launched, it was only available with a 2-litre Ingenium engine. Now JLRM is also offering a variant with a 3-litre engine priced from RM722,787.

Available as a R-Dynamic version, the additional Velar variant has a P380 supercharged V6 petrol engine (pictured below) which can produce up to 380 ps/450 Nm. This gives it a claimed capability of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and beyond 250 km/h but a limiter restricts it to that maximum speed. To emphasise its performance, the exhaust sound has been enhanced to produce a deep powerful note.

The Velar has been praised for cabin appointments which use premium and luxury materials extravagantly. The instrument panel’s strong, horizontal beam is the defining element of the interior architecture while the slender air vents reinforce the Velar’s reductive, technology-enabled design. The seats are covered with perforated leather combined with a luxurious fabric from Denmark’s Kvadrat (only available with the Premium Textile Interior Pack).

Pioneering features such as the flush deployable door handles and the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system are among the advanced features of the Velar. The Touch Pro Duo features two 10-inch high-definition touchscreens integrated seamlessly behind secret-until-lit surfaces. These slim, intuitive displays work in harmony with the cabin architecture while adding an overall sense of modernity to the vehicle’s design.

The flush deployable door handles are a futuristic feature and extend from the bodywork as the vehicle is unlocked and retract when the doors are locked. This contributes to lowering the low drag coefficient to a Cd of 0.32, making the Velar the most aerodynamically-efficient Land Rover ever produced.

Another feature that enhances the aesthetics of the SUV is the Matrix LED Headlights, one of the most slender headlights to appear on a Land Rover vehicle. These headlights, supplied Osram, produce a quality of light close to daylight, giving strong illumination and reducing eye fatigue.

The Velar’s body is an aluminium-intensive monocoque employing Jaguar Land Rover’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture. Aluminium alloys account for more than 81% of the body-in-white (the bare shell) – a figure no competitor can match. The light and stiff bodyshell, together with double-wishbone front and Integral Link rear suspension, provides agile handling, superior ride comfort and outstanding refinement.

It also delivers exceptional levels of crash protection that the Velar has been developed to meet. The comprehensive safety system in the vehicle includes 6 airbags and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including radar-based High-Speed Emergency Braking technology.

The Velar 3.0 has a standard all-wheel drive system, 4-corner air suspension, ground clearance of 251mm which allows crossing water with a depth of up to 650 mm. The ride height drops by 10 mm when cruising at speeds above 105 km/h to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve fuel efficiency.

All vehicles imported and distributed by JLRM have been tuned to meet Malaysian climatic and fuel conditions as well as regulations.

Vehicles purchased from authorised dealers come with the Land Rover Care programme which includes a 5-year warranty, 5 years of free scheduled servicing and 3 years of roadside assistance.
