The new 2011 Land Rover Freelander 2 SD4 is now in Malaysia. The latest version is essentially an update of the model which was launched in 2008 and sports subtle exterior and interior changes. More significantly, it has an upgraded, more powerful – yet fuel-efficient – 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The good news is that the retail price remains the same at RM271,388 (Peninsular Malaysia) and RM274,888 (Sabah and Sarawak), both prices excluding insurance premiums.

has styling elements shared with the Range Rover
The latest Freelander’s front end gets a more Range Rover-like front grille with Titan finish, re-profiled bumpers, new design headlights and taillight along with revised foglamp bezels. Other styling updates include body-coloured parts such as the Oberon-painted tailgate handle and door handles, headlamp washer jets and door mirrors. New 19-inch alloy wheels are also fitted.
Inside the cabin, there’s now a more contemporary fascia with new and clearer dials. There’s still generous space (certainly far more than the first generation) with good head, shoulder and legroom. All passengers can enjoy the view with Land Rover’s unique ‘stadium seating’ which positions the rear seat passengers 50 mm higher than those in the front seats. The rear backrests are divided in a 60/40 ratio and can be folded down together or individually to suit load requirements.
The new powerplant 187 bhp and 420 Nm, higher than before, with 20 Nm more torque available at a lower rpm for stronger acceleration or pulling heavy loads. As before, the Freelander 2 has Land Rover’s pioneering Terrain Response system. This system allows the drive to select a suitable driving mode according to the conditions. Each model adapts the responses of the vehicle’s engine, gearbox, centre coupling and chassis systems for optimal drivability, comfort and traction.
The Terrain Response system also controls stability and traction aids such as Dynamic Stability Control, Electronic Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Corner Brake Control, Roll Stability Control and Hill Descent Control.
The New Freelander 2 and other models in the 2011 Land Rover range will be on display at the Bangsar Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur from March 3 – 6, 2011.
