The hype train is on a roll and its fuelled by more details released earlier today on the upcoming new Ford Ranger. The company’s refreshed mid-size pick-up truck will come with the latest features and tech once enjoyed in vehicles of the higher segments. The new Ranger will come as the Wildtrack, XL and XLT, and the sole distributor of Ford vehicles in Malaysia, Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) will be introducing Malaysia’s first Ford Performance vehicle range, the highly anticipated Ranger Raptor, which will make its official debut at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 in November.
A new compact EcoBlue 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine will be available in the Ranger Raptor and Wildtrack, while the XL and XLT will still be available with the current Duratorq 2.2- and 3.2-litre turbodiesel engine line up. The Australian specification engine makes near 200hp and 500Nm of torque, which is a lot more than the 3.2-litre engine, however, there are no official numbers released as of yet.
The Bi-Turbo design is in a sequential setup and will greatly reduce any ‘turbo-lag’ that have been known in the past. The new design will employ a fixed geometry turbo to reduce lag and low engine speeds, while the secondary turbo features a variable geometry setup allowing variable turbine speeds. Mated to the 2.0-litre mill is a 10-speed automatic transmission in the Ranger Raptor, Wildtrack and in the XLT+ variant.
Ford is very aware that many of its Ranger customers drive them in urban areas most of the time, and the new version will come fitted with driver-assist technologies. These features include Semi-Automatic Parallel Parking (SAPP), Autonomous Emergency Breaking (AEB) system, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control. The new Ranger will come with the Easy Lift Tailgate which incorporates a torsion bar to aid lifting and lowering the tailgate effortless.
