Isuzu HICOM Malaysia Sdn Bhd (IHM) recently commemorated a significant milestone – its 10th anniversary – at a ceremony held in Pekan, Pahang. The milestone followed another one earlier which was the completion of the 100,000th vehicle from the assembly plant in February this year.
“IHM was established in 2007 with the purpose of fulfilling the growing needs of local customers and responding to the increased market competition. Since its establishment, IHM has launched many Isuzu models. In the last decade, the company has commercially produced nine vehicles, ranging from the N-series to the F-series, which have also kept abreast of regulatory requirements in Malaysia,” said Taizo Nakahigashi, Chief Executive Officer of IHM.
The Chairman of Isuzu Motors Limited of Japan, Susumu Hosoi, added: “Malaysia is an important market for the Isuzu Group. With proven, reliable and durable vehicles, the Isuzu brand has been well received in Malaysia and has achieved the No. 1 market share in the truck category for three consecutive years, attaining a dominant market share of 40%.”
To meet growing demand for Isuzu vehicle, IHM opened a flagship facility in Shah Alam, Selangor, earlier this year. This centre is also used as a training centre for new mechanics to obtain the Isuzu i-Mec certification, an internal qualification for mechanics who maintain Isuzu vehicles.
The IHM plant is situated within the DRB-HICOM manufacturing complex in Pekan. It covers a land area of 14 hectares and has a production capacity of 13,000 units per annum on single shift basis. Isuzu Motors Asia is the majority shareholder (51%) while HICOM Holdings Berhad holds the remaining share in IHM.
