For driving enthusiasts, the long-distance journey is one of the great pleasures in life. It can be to Genting Highlands or to the East Coast… or even beyond Malaysian borders and as the saying goes – it is never about the destination, it’s the journey.
For decades in Europe, the legendary open road endurance races have long been a hallmark of every driver’s ultimate challenge. The famous 1,000-km Targa Florio and the 1,500-km Mille Miglia are just two that have drawn those with petrol flowing through their veins.
EvoMalaysia has organised a 1,000-km journey from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket, Thailand, next month which it bills as ‘The Most Epic Drive of 2017’. With the aim of being the ‘Mille Miglia of the East’, #EvoEnduro, as the event is known, will take place from September 1 – 3, 2017. A maximum of 50 vehicles will take part and these must be specific models (Japanese and Malaysian brands are included in the list) that meet the organiser’s criteria. Should an entrant’s car not be on the qualifying list, then there will be a charge of RM2,000 to join.
Incidentally, participants have to obtain their own accommodation in Phuket although the organiser has arranged for corporate rates at certain hotels.
Applications to join the #EvoEnduro close on August 25, 2017. More details can be found at https://evomalaysia.com/2017-evo-enduro-drive.
Whether it’s 1917 or 2017, the determination and the bond of man and machine as well as the sheer joy of being accompanied by many who share the same love for cars, forever encompass something much larger than the chequered flag itself.
