The 2013 Honda Freed is now in the showrooms, with cosmetic updates to the design, enhanced comfort for the driver and passengers and some new features.

Externally, the new Freed can be identified by the new chrome grille and rear numberplate garnish as well as a reprofiled front bumper. Sporty 15-inch alloy wheels are also fitted. Inside, the dual-layer dashboard also gets chrome treatment and there’s a new coloured multi-layer meter cluster.

“We are pleased to introduce the New Freed, which is a product that maximizes the joy of driving for Malaysian motorists. The latest Freed is a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit from Indonesia. To date, Honda Malaysia has sold over 2,500 units of Freed since its launch,” said Honda Malaysia’s MD & CEO, Yoichiro Ueno.

Technically, there would be the usual improvements that are part of the ‘kaizen’ (constant improvement) philosophy of Japanese carmakers but there are no significant differences mentioned in the specifications. The Freed continues to use a fuel-efficient 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine with a 5-speed automatic transmission as standard.

The Grade E Freed is equipped with plush leather seats while an armrest on both sides is now fitted to both the Grade E and Grade S. The driver’s seat height adjuster allows driver’s of different heights to be seated comfortably while the flat floor design also enhances comfort for the passengers.

The Freed’s safety features include two front airbags, ABS, G-Force Control Technology (G-Con), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Advanced Compatibility Engineering. It has scored 6 stars in the Japanese New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP).

For colours, customers can choose from Brilliant White Pearl, Polished Metal Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl for the Grade S Freed while Grade E comes in Brilliant White Pearl.

Honda Malaysia offers a 5-year warranty with no limit on mileage from the date of first registration.

The company emphasises that the warranty is applicable only when regular preventive maintenance is performed as per required intervals. Customers are also entitled to 6 Free Service Coupons entitling them to free labour charge during service (applicable for 1,000 km, 10,000 km, 30,000 km, 50,000 km, 70,000 km and 90,000 km services).
