Launched in December 2008, the third generation of the Honda City has been a hot-seller in a market environment that has seen a downturn this year. And by this week, 10,000 units had been delivered to customers around Malaysia, certainly impressive for a model in the non-national segment.

To celebrate the milestone, Honda Malaysia had a special present for the 10,000th owner, Ms Phua Bong Chin, who had taken delivery of her brand new car at Sumber Auto in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, two weeks earlier (she was unaware that she was the 10,000th buyer). The present was a choice of a holiday at Pangkor Laut Resort for 3 days or 2 years of preventive maintenance paid by Honda Malaysia and she chose the former.

“I’ve never been lucky in my entire life, not even in lucky draw and I’m really happy to be the 10,000th City owner,” a delighted Ms Phua, who received her present from Toru Takahashi, Managing Director/CEO of Honda Malaysia.

On the company’s sales performance so far, he said that Honda Malaysia still managed to record a growth of 22% from January to June, compared to the same period in 2008. As of June 30 2009, total Honda sales were 20,479 units.  He revealed that the City still has 4,000 orders outstanding and the plant is working at full speed to minimise the waiting period for customers.
