Largest gathering of Gen9 Mitsubishi Lancers
   Author: Chips

The Lancer GT Club (LGTC) recently held its 1st Annual Gathering and Official Launch and Lancer owners from throughout Peninsula Malaysia gather in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, to form the largest ever gathering of the latest 9th generation Mitsubishi Lancer. No less than 80 cars turned up, some from as far north as Kedah, as far east as Kuala Terengganu and even from Singapore.

During the gathering, many members who had only known each other online via the Lancerzone forum at www.lancergtclub.com finally met their fellow members face to face for the first time. It was indeed a rare occasion for members from all over the country to get together and share their experiences with their Lancer.

The highlight of the event was the Annual Gathering Dinner which kicked off with a speech from Tana Terence, the club president. As is normal for such events, there were lots of fun and games and LGTC awards given for ‘Mr Friendly’, ‘Most Modded Car’ and ‘Snail Driver of the Year’. The awards were determined by members’ online polling on the club’s forum.

Generous support came from various sponsors, including Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, and while they had a good time, the LGTC members did not forget the less fortunate. They helped to raise funds for Bethany Home by selling calendars for the home which provides training and educational programmes for children and adults with disabilities such as epilepsy, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, autism and Down Syndrome.

The Lancer GT Club started off as an online forum through the efforts of Tana Terence back in August 2007. It was meant to provide a channel of communication for all Lancer GT/GLS enthusiasts and also serve as a primary resource centre for the 9th Generation Lancer as well as promote the automotive industry & motorsports in Malaysia.

The forum grew rapidly from just a mere handful to dozens of members as word quickly got around the Lancer community. Before long (in September 2007), it was time to host the forum – which became the LancerZone – at its own server which was fully sponsored by Vijandren Ramadass, a club member.

To date, the LGTC has over 300 registered members (Lancer GT/GLS/Evo owners) and 1700 forumers. According to data from the Malaysian Automotive Association, 1,749 Lancers (including 7 units of the Lancer Evo) have been registered nationwide from the time the new model was launched until the end of September 2008.
