UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) has begun selling updated and improved versions of the Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) series - Toyota Fortuner, Innova and Hilux – which were first launched Malaysia in 2005. Up till September 26 2008, 40,000 units of Hilux, 30,000 units of the Innova and 6,500 units of Fortuner were sold nationwide.

“With the three improved models, we are confident that we will see strong demand from customers in both Peninsular and East Malaysia and, at the same time, increase our market share for this year,” said Kuah Kock Heng, Managing Director of UMWT.

The company has set for a monthly sales target of 1,300 units for the new Toyota Hilux (the best-selling pick-up in the country) while the Toyota Innova and Fortuner have targets of 500 units and 200 units per month, respectively. The company did not provide prices for the new line-up.

Toyota Fortuner

The new Fortuner SUV is available in two versions – 2.7V VVT-i with a petrol engine and 2.5G D-4D with a Common Rail turbodiesel engine.  Following feedback and response from customers, the 2.5G now comes with a 4-speed ECT automatic transmission (instead of 5-speed manual transmission), the same as the 2.7V.  Other improvements include aesthetic enhancements of the exterior, a notable change being to projector headlamps. UMWT is also offering a Toyota Racing Development (TRD) Sportivo version for those who want something more distinctive.

For the new model, there are two rows of vents on the ceiling to ensure that cool air reaches all the way to the occupants in the third row. Separate controls are available for the rear occupants and the fan speed has now been increased to 4 speeds from the previous three.

For added comfort and convenience, the new Fortuner 2.7V now comes with a 6-way power driver’s seat. All adjustments can be done effortlessly by operating switches on the lower right side of the seat.

Toyota Hilux

The Hilux, known for its proven reputation for quality, toughness and reliability, gets cosmetic changes on the exterior and enhancements inside the cabin.  There are four versions available, one more than before. They are the 2.5G Double Cab with automatic and manual transmission, 2.5 litre Double Cab Standard with manual transmission and also the Single Cab with manual transmission.  The new variant – the 2.5-litre Double Cab Standard with manual transmission - is said to be introduced in response to customers feedback that there are buyers who require a basic Double Cab variant for business purposes.

The Hilux is available only with a Toyota D-4D turbodiesel engine with 2nd Generation Common Rail Direct Injection technology. This technology improves not only improves the performance of the engine but also enhances driveability, comfort and fuel economy, besides lowering noise levels. For the new Hilux Double Cab 2.5G, a SRS airbag is now also provided for the front passenger.

Having ample space enough for eight passengers, the new Innova MPV gets an exterior and interior makeover.  Notable changes are the new chrome grille and new front and rear bumpers.  The interior gets 2-tone colour scheme of brown and Greige (combination of grey and beige) which highlights the cabin spaciousness.

Toyota Innova

The new Innova maintains the clear and bright Optitron meters on the instrument panel, a gate-type shift lever (for automatic transmission only) and the Multi-Info Display panel situated at the top of the centre console area of the dashboard.

The dual air conditioner (with controls at the front and over the 2nd row) ensures that all occupants receive cool air for enhanced comfort, especially during the hot weather. With high emphasis on safety, driver SRS airbags and ABS are now standard for the Innova E Grade.
