MOHE targets to help 75% fresh graduates find jobs in 2011

The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has set a target for 75% of fresh graduates to find jobs this year with the launch of its new initiative, 1Nation Career Portal.

Its secretary-general Datuk Abdul Rahim Md Noor urged all universities to achieve this target to reflect the quality of their own education by 2015 given that a job portal has over 3,000 fresh graduate jobs daily.

MOHE signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 15 April 2011 in Kuala Lumpur with the said job portal for the launch of the 1Nation Career Portal, which will be linked to the ministry’s website to match jobs and internship to Malaysian graduates.

The 1Nation Career Portal will complement the MOHE's Graduate Tracer Study Systems (GTTS) which keeps track of unemployed and underemployed graduates.

The GTTS implementation would enable a more accurate planning and formulating of policies as well as faster approval of new programmes of study and efficient distribution of allocation, Abdul Rahim said.

Meanwhile, MOHE has opened the online application for the Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) since April at https://www.mohe.gov.my/MIS for those interested to do post-graduate and post-doctoral studies.

The MIS initiative, aimed at attracting the best brain worldwide to pursue advanced academic studies in Malaysia, supports the government's efforts to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad.

Study in the following fields will be given priority:

· Science and Engineering

· Agriculture and Fisheries

· Economics and Islamic Finance

· Information and Communication Technology

· Biotechnology

· Biosecurity and Food Safety

· Infrastructure and Utility

· Environmental Studies

· Health including but not limited to, nursing, medicine, clinical pharmacy
