Contractors have been encouraged to register and legalize their foreign construction workers under the amnesty period before the strict enforcement exercise begins in November 2011.
Master Builders Association Malaysia president Kwan Foh Kwai said the association hoped that all illegal workers, except those with criminal records, would be legalised and allowed to remain in the country.
“This is to meet the demand for many entry point projects under the Economic Transformation Programme and those under the 10th Malaysia Plan,” he said.
Kwan also asked contractors to register their foreign workers through Construction Labour Exchange Centre Berhad (CLAB), a company appointed by the Home Ministry to conduct the amnesty programme.
There are three CLAB registration counters in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru respectively. [Rufaidah]
