Over 33 million job opportunities will be created throughout the country by 2020 to provide employment to the people, according to government sources. About half of the vacancies would be created in the highly skilled sectors and benefit holders of Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM).
This is in line with the Government’s aspirations to ensure jobs which required competency in skills that is on par with those who excel academically. About 40% of the allocation under the 10th Malaysia Plan will be used to enhance human capital, in which the development of highly skilled sectors will be given more emphasis.
The Prime Minister has urged the Human Resources Ministry to focus on facilitating more SKM holders to meet market demand. It is the hope of the government to see SKM holders receiving equal opportunities and prospects as those who graduate from universities and other institutions of higher learning.
The ministry will also work towards correcting the perception among parents and students that taking up skill courses to obtain such certificates is only a ‘last resort’. Industry players can assist in enhancing skills training, giving acknowledgment to the accreditation and providing good career advancement and lucrative salaries.
