Affordable homes near MRT line

Under the 1Malaysia housing programme (PR1MA), affordable houses will be built along the proposed Sungai Buloh-Kajang Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line. The chairman of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB), Datuk Idris Haron, said the company has the knowledge and capacity to build homes that will not only be affordable but also of good quality, adding that it was interested in the project.
 

SPNB is responsible in implementing Rumah Mampu Milik Programme and the Rumah Mesra Rakyat Programme to ensure those in the low income group are able to afford comfortable homes. The programmes of 1Malaysia housing aim to provide affordable city homes costing between RM150, 000 and RM300,000 for those who earn less than RM6,000 a month.
 

He added that SPNB would still be involved in low-cost housing and homes priced below RM220,000 for first-time young owners under the Government's My First Home Scheme. On abandoned housing projects, SPNB is currently working on nine projects comprising 3,500 units on behalf of the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
 

“To date, SPNB has completed 82 projects involving 24,856 abandoned home units at a cost of RM557 million,” he said. The nine abandoned projects are in Johor, Malacca, Selangor, Penang and Pahang. He said, Selangor had the highest number of abandoned houses with 2,648 units, of which 2,500 were low-cost flats at Bandar Alam Perdana in Ijok. The project was abandoned in 2002 and SPNB took over in November 2009.
 

Apart from these main responsibilities, SPNB is also dedicated to providing housing for the less fortunate and poverty stricken families in Malaysia by contributing some amount of the company’s annual profits towards welfare works such as repairing or reconstructing dilapidated houses under Special Housing Projects via the Amal Jariah Scheme.
