Sonos Play:3

For those who are not familiar, Sonos is an electronic company founded by John MacFarlanen which mainly produces products that use wifi connectivity. The company is based in Santa Barbara, California, and was founded in 2003. Since being established Sonos, Sonos has found a customer niche where consumers want to be able to enjoy their music without the hassle of wired connections, something they enjoy with their portable music devices.
 

 

One of the popular products Sonos makes is its Play:3, a smaller and a cheaper version of their wireless internet-connected speaker line. Although the brand is known for their expensive line of products, the Play:3 is said to be the ‘all-in-one’ wireless product.

 

Priced at US$299, it is less pricey than the Airplay speaker by JBL (in the US market) but is said to have sound quality similar to its bigger brother, the Sonos S5.

 

When connected to the Internet, it provides virtually unlimited music choices, complementing a personal digital music library that would already be on the home PC. Additionally, connecting to over 100,000 radio stations, shows and podcasts expands the entertainment sources available. The Play: 3 also works seamlessly with the iTunes library and playlists.

 

All Sonos devices can play MP3 (compressed), WMA (compressed), AAC (MPEG4), iTunes, Ogg Vorbis, Audible (format 4), and Apple Lossless, Flac (lossless), WAV (uncompressed), and AIFF uncompressed formats.

 

A distinctive feature of the Play:3 is something called the orientation sensor. This fine-tunes the device automatically depending on how the Play:3 is placed - vertically or horizontally. The good thing about its size is that it is easy to fit virtually anywhere - on bookcases, the tabletop or mounted on a wall.

 

The set comes with one tweeter and two mid-range speakers, three drivers and three amps. In addition, there’s also a rear bass radiator. Stereo pairing mode is possible where you can combine two Play:3s (or more) at the same time. [Rufaidah]
