Blackberry Bold 9900

BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) has announced the impending launch of the new BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 which, at 10.5 mm thickness, will be its thinnest device available. It will run on the brand new BlackBerry OS7.

The Bold Touch 9900 has a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen which displays at 640x480 pixels resolution. The QWERTY keyboard and the optical trackpad are complemented by an enhanced 'touch and type' feature. It also comes with a 5-megapixel camera at rear with LED flash and is capable of recording 720p video. The weight of 130g is about average for a modern device.

The internal memory of 8 GB can be expanded to 32 GB using micro SD cards. Connectivity options include dual-band Wifi (802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz and 802.11 a/n at 5 GHz), NFC support, GPS with A-GPS and Bluetooth.

Distinguished by an iconic design and arguably the industry's best keyboard, the Bold 9900 uses premium materials and finishes. This new model has a lustrous exterior with a brushed stainless steel frame and a high-gloss glass-weave backplate.

The Liquid Graphics touchscreen, a key new feature powered by BlackBerry 7, is said to deliver fast, smooth performance for highly responsive touch-based navigation, web browsing, pictures, video and even graphics-intensive games. Offering up to 60 frames-per-second performance with instant UI action, Liquid Graphics gives customers a visually rich and immersive experience that's responsive to the touch.

The date of release is expected to be within one or two months (depending on the market) and the retail price is still unconfirmed. [Rufaidah]
