Commercial vehicle operators who are looking for a tough and hard-working business partner will find it in the new Nissan Navara Single Cab 4x2. Based on the robust Navara pick-up platform, the Navara Single Cab is available with three body designs (Luton, Steel or Wooden body configurations) to suit different business needs.

To haul a maximum payload of up to 750 kgs, the Navara Single Cab has a 2.5-litre YD25DDTi common-rail turbodiesel engine with intercooler which produces 294 Nm of torque and 144 ps – the most powerful engine in its class. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard for reliable operation and optimum fuel economy.

The vehicle has a double-layered, high-tensile metal frame chassis with reinforcements to handle heavy loads and remain durable for years of operation. Like the other Navara variants, the Single Cab comes with the well-proven independent double-wishbone front suspension and a rigid rear axle with semi-elliptic leafsprings. Additionally, its Zone Body Construction offers additional durability and rigidity.

The cabin is designed to ensure that the occupants, especially the driver. Besides being well insulated from the elements, there is comfortable seating, air-conditioning, and a standard audio system with radio receiver and CD-player.

Even though this is a commercial vehicle, the Navara Single Cab has good safety provisions such as side-impact beams, a collapsible steering wheel column, and load-sensing brake system that evenly distributes brake pressure to rear wheels for optimal stopping performance. Needless to say, the front brakes are disc brakes and there is a dual hydraulic circuit to ensure that enough braking power is available even if there is a leak.

The selling prices Navara Single Cab starts RM64,391.55, excluding roadtax, insurance and registration-related charges (Peninsular Malaysia). It is only available for commercial registration. A 3-year/100,000 km warranty (whichever comes first) comes with each new unit.

The Navara Single Cab, along with the new NV200 Vanette, is just the first of a number of new Nissan models which will be launched in Malaysia this year. According to Edaran Tan Chong Motor’s Executive Director, Dato’ Dr Ang Bon Beng, other models in the pipeline include a B-segment sedan and a few 'interesting' CBU models. He also revealed that the company will be running a pilot programme for the all-electric Nissan Leaf.

"The Malaysian Automotive Association has forecast that the Total Industry Volume will grow 2.5% to hit 615,000 units this year. We are confident that Nissan sales volume will exceed industry growth with the introduction of new models in segments which Nissan is currently unrepresented,” he said recently.
